Patrick Clancy Breaks His Silence on the Final Days With His Son Callan

Patrick Clancy has spoken publicly for the first time on television since the court proceedings involving his former wife, Lindsay Clancy, sharing heartbreaking memories of the final days he spent with his youngest son, Callan.

In an interview with 60 Minutes correspondent Ross Douthat, Patrick recalled the devastating events of January 24, 2023, when he returned to his Duxbury, Massachusetts, home and discovered his three children—5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 8-month-old Callan—had been strangled. Cora and Dawson had already died, while Callan was still alive and was rushed to Boston Children’s Hospital.

Patrick said that, at first, he held onto hope that Callan might survive. Doctors had managed to restore the infant’s heartbeat, and Patrick said he desperately wanted to believe his son could pull through.

“I just thought, ‘Just gimme one,’” Patrick recalled, describing his hope that he might be able to raise Callan himself and tell him about his brother and sister.

Callan survived for four more days. Patrick said he remains grateful for those final days because they gave him precious time with his son.

When Douthat asked what he said to Callan during those hours, Patrick struggled to put the moment into words. He recalled telling his baby, “I’m so sorry,” before holding him and lying beside him.

Patrick then described the moment that has remained with him ever since: Callan died in his arms.

During those four days, Patrick also began writing tributes to each of his children, explaining that he feared they might somehow be forgotten. He later said that preserving their memories has remained an important part of how he has coped with the loss.

The interview came just weeks after Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial ended in a mistrial when jurors could not reach a unanimous verdict. Her defense had argued that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and should not be held criminally responsible for the deaths. Prosecutors have not announced whether they will seek a retrial.

Patrick also addressed the intense online speculation surrounding the case, including baseless theories suggesting he was somehow involved in his children’s deaths. He said such claims are deeply painful and distract from what he believes should remain the focus: remembering his children and understanding perinatal mental health.

For Patrick, the tragedy has left a life divided into before and after. But through his memories of Cora, Dawson and Callan, he continues to keep his children present in his life—and to carry the grief of losing all three.
