Several major television networks have reportedly declined to replace CNN’s White House press pool team, signaling support for the network amid a dispute over access to presidential coverage.

The disagreement highlights growing tensions between the White House and the media organizations responsible for reporting on the president’s activities. The press pool plays an important role in covering events, traveling with the president and sharing news coverage with other outlets.

The five networks—ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News and NBC—traditionally rotate responsibility for recording presidential events and sharing footage with other media organizations. When CNN was scheduled to handle pool coverage, the White House prevented the network from carrying out its assigned role.

Rather than appointing another network to take CNN’s place, the television pool announced that it would suspend coverage of events designated for presidential pool reporting. The decision meant that the usual shared television feed would not be provided for those events.

The dispute emerged after the Trump administration restricted access for CNN, MS NOW and Politico. The three organizations subsequently filed a federal lawsuit challenging the restrictions, arguing that the measures violate constitutional protections for the press.

The suspension has raised concerns about the impact of government restrictions on news organizations and the public’s access to independent coverage of presidential activities. The White House and the affected media outlets have taken opposing positions over the restrictions and the role of the press in covering the administration.

While presidential pool coverage has been suspended, other arrangements—including coverage of congressional activities and selected events—are expected to continue.
