Thousands Without Power Around Mildura After Car Hits Power Pole
MILDURA, VICTORIA — September 21, 2026

More than 3,360 homes and businesses around Mildura in north-west Victoria have been left without power after a vehicle crashed into a power pole on Monday morning.

The crash occurred on McEdward Street in Birdwoodton, near Mildura, shortly after 6:30 a.m. Emergency services attended the scene and transported a woman to Mildura Hospital for treatment.

Crash Damages Major Powerline
The collision caused significant damage to a major electricity feeder supplying parts of Mildura and surrounding areas.

Powercor spokesperson Jordan Oliver said about 2,700 customers on the affected feeder were directly impacted, including homes and businesses.

The outage also triggered a number of automatic fire alarm systems because of the loss of mains power.

Affected areas include parts of Mildura, Birdwoodton and Cabarita.

Power Expected to Return by Evening
Powercor crews were working to repair the damaged infrastructure and restore electricity to affected customers.

The company expected power to be restored by approximately 5:30 p.m. Monday, although the exact timing could depend on repair work at the damaged power pole and network.

Authorities have not reported any fatalities in connection with the crash.

The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.
