Two Killed After Speeding Boat Crashes Into Lake Shore and Capsizes

Two people were killed after a 36-foot boat traveling at high speed crashed into a large peninsula jutting into a lake, sending the vessel into the air before it landed in a boat-in campsite and capsized, authorities said.

The victims were identified as Charles “Chip” Romer, 65, and Jennifer Luzzi, 59.

According to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, the boat was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck the large peninsula along the lake. The force of the impact launched the vessel into the air.

The boat then came down in a nearby boat-in campsite before overturning.

Romer and Luzzi were found unconscious near the wreckage. Rescue personnel attempted life-saving measures at the scene, but both victims were pronounced dead.

Romer was the owner of Romer Beverage Company, a family-run beverage distribution business. Luzzi worked in real estate and led The Jennifer Luzzi Group.

Their deaths have left family, friends and members of their professional communities mourning the sudden loss.

Authorities have not yet determined exactly what caused the boat to crash into the shoreline. The circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation, and officials have not released additional details explaining why the vessel was traveling at high speed or what caused the crash.

The investigation is expected to continue as authorities work to establish the full sequence of events surrounding the fatal accident.
