Two Men Accused of Pulling Off Bizarre $1,100 Tuna Heist at Australian Supermarket

Police in Australia are searching for two men accused of stealing more than $1,100 worth of canned tuna from a Coles supermarket in a carefully coordinated shoplifting incident.

The alleged theft took place on October 7 at the North Rocks Shopping Centre in Sydney’s north-west, according to Hills Police Area Command.

CCTV footage reportedly captured one man entering the supermarket and filling a shopping trolley with tins of Sirena tuna. Meanwhile, a second man allegedly waited near the entrance.

Police claim the second suspect activated the store’s entry gates at the right moment, allowing his accomplice to push the trolley out without paying.

The stolen tuna was estimated to be worth approximately $1,100. Individual tins of the popular brand reportedly sell for between $2.95 and $7.50, depending on their size.

Hills Police later shared images of the two men and appealed to the public for help identifying them.

In a tongue-in-cheek social media post, officers described the incident as a “fishy shoplifting incident” and joked about the unusually large quantity of tuna allegedly taken.

Despite the lighthearted wording, police are continuing to investigate and want to speak with anyone who recognises either suspect or has information that could help their inquiries.

Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers NSW on 1800 333 000.

Neither man has been publicly identified or charged in connection with the alleged theft. The investigation remains ongoing.
