Winx’s $10 Million Daughter Begins Her Breeding Career in NSW Hunter Valley

The first live foal of Australia’s champion racehorse Winx has begun her breeding career after being retired from racing without ever competing on the track.

Quinceanera, now four years old, was sent to Super Seth at Coolmore Stud in the New South Wales Hunter Valley last week. The mare was covered for the first time this season, although her pregnancy has not yet been confirmed.

Quinceanera made headlines in 2024 when she was sold for $10 million, setting a world record for a filly at auction. She was subsequently bought back by Winx part-owner Debbie Kepitis and Woppitt Bloodstock.

Earlier this year, her owners announced that Quinceanera would not pursue a racing career. She had experienced several minor issues during her early preparation, and trainer Chris Waller and veterinarians recommended retiring her rather than risking her health on the racetrack.

Instead, the mare will now follow the same broader path as her famous mother.

Winx became one of Australia’s most successful racehorses, winning 33 consecutive races, including 25 Group 1 races and a record four Cox Plates. She retired from racing in 2019 and later began her breeding career.

Quinceanera’s first breeding partner is Super Seth, a stallion standing at Coolmore Stud in the Hunter Valley. He already has four individual Group 1 winners from his first two crops, while his yearlings have sold for as much as $950,000 this year. His service fee for the 2026 breeding season is $137,500.

If Quinceanera becomes pregnant, her first foal would be expected to arrive in spring 2027, potentially giving Winx her first grandfoal.

Meanwhile, Winx herself has also reached another milestone. The champion mare gave birth to her third live foal on Tuesday night — a filly by shuttle stallion Too Darn Hot.

Winx’s journey into motherhood has not been without difficulties. She lost her first foal in 2020, before successfully producing Quinceanera and two further live foals.

For Quinceanera’s owners, the focus is now on her future as a broodmare rather than on the racetrack.
