24-Year-Old Man Arrested After Fatal Shooting in Austin

A 24-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder following a fatal shooting in South Austin, Texas, police said.

Officers with the Austin Police Department responded to multiple reports of a shooting at around 8:09 p.m. Tuesday, October 6, in the 11,300 block of Menchaca Road.

When officers arrived, they found 34-year-old Miguel Guevara suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital but was later pronounced dead at approximately 8:58 p.m., according to police.

Detectives said their investigation indicated that Guevara had first been involved in an argument with his girlfriend. Police said the situation later escalated into a separate dispute between Guevara and his roommate, 24-year-old Christopher Foy.

According to investigators, the second argument involved a disagreement over rent money. Police allege that the confrontation escalated and Foy shot Guevara before fleeing the area.

Authorities launched a search for Foy and located him several hours later in the 4,600 block of Nuckols Crossing. Officers from the Austin Police Department’s Tactical Intelligence Unit, Patrol Division, Air Support Unit and K9 Unit assisted in locating and arresting him.

Foy was taken into custody and charged with murder in connection with Guevara’s death.

The shooting is being investigated as Austin’s 46th homicide of 2026. Police said the investigation remains ongoing and are asking anyone with additional information to contact authorities.

The case remains pending, and the allegations against Foy have not been proven in court.
