All 29 People Rescued After Ferry Catches Fire Near Greek Island of Mykonos

MYKONOS, Greece — September 25, 2026 — All 29 people aboard a vehicle ferry were safely evacuated after a fire broke out on the vessel near the Greek island of Mykonos on Friday, according to Greek authorities.

Fire Breaks Out at Sea

The fire started on the deck of the ferry while it was operating near Mykonos, one of Greece’s most popular tourist destinations. There were 28 crew members and one passenger aboard the vessel when the emergency began, the Greek coast guard said.

Several coast guard vessels and firefighting boats were dispatched to the area after the fire was reported. At least five coast guard vessels and two firefighting speedboats took part in the evacuation operation.

Everyone Evacuated Safely

Rescue crews successfully evacuated all 29 people from the ferry. No injuries were reported, according to an official from the ferry’s operator, Blue Star Ferries.

After the passengers and crew were taken to safety, the crew worked with emergency responders to control the fire aboard the vessel.

Images shared by local media showed a large column of smoke rising from the ferry while it remained offshore. Authorities continued monitoring the vessel as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames.
