Florida Teacher Amanda Hicks Stabbed to Death by Fiancé in Tragic Murder-Suicide

A Florida middle school teacher and young mother was killed inside her apartment in a tragic incident that left her 10-month-old daughter alone in her crib for hours before police arrived.

Amanda Hicks, 26, taught reading at Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School in Port St. Lucie, Florida. On May 27, 2023, officers discovered Hicks and her 25-year-old fiancé dead inside their apartment after a family member requested a welfare check.

Investigators said Hicks had been fatally stabbed, while her fiancé died from a gunshot wound in what authorities described as an apparent murder-suicide.

When officers entered the apartment, they heard the baby crying. The little girl was found unharmed and was later placed in the care of a relative.

Police said the couple’s deaths were still under investigation at the time, and authorities did not publicly establish a definitive motive in the initial reports.

Hicks’ death devastated her school community, where colleagues remembered her as a valued educator. Friends and family also mourned the loss of a young mother whose life ended far too soon.
