Oregon School Shooting Claims Lives of Teacher and Three Children: Families Remember the Victims

A deadly shooting at an elementary school in Bend, Oregon, has left families devastated after three children and a teacher were killed inside a special education classroom. Two other people, including a young student, were injured in the attack.

The shooting occurred on October 15, 2026, at Silver Rail Elementary School. Police said the suspected gunman, a 16-year-old former student identified as Griffin J. John II, entered the school and opened fire.

Among those killed was 25-year-old teacher Megan Lambert, who was remembered by her family as a compassionate educator who cared deeply about children with special needs. Teaching had been her dream, and she was known for standing up for students who needed extra support.

Five-year-old Rhoam Summer was also killed. His family described him as a joyful, energetic child who loved storytelling, dancing, dinosaurs and caring for his stuffed animals. His parents had been looking forward to sharing many more childhood milestones with him.

The other two children killed were boys aged 8 and 11. Their families have asked authorities not to release their names publicly.

A 7-year-old student and 54-year-old teacher Becky Drury were wounded. Both were taken for medical treatment, and reports said Drury was expected to survive.

Police said several people acted during the attack. One teacher reportedly tried to stop the gunman by throwing a cellphone at him and tackling him. Kaylub Giamanco, a father of two children attending the school, also intervened and fatally shot the suspect.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the shooting, including the motive behind the attack. Officials have not confirmed a clear explanation for why the former student targeted the school.

As the community mourns, families are remembering the victims for who they were beyond the tragedy: a dedicated teacher and children whose lives were full of promise.
