Twice-Deported Honduran Man Charged in Charlotte Light Rail Stabbing That Left Passenger Injured

Twice-Deported Honduran Man Charged After Stabbing Passenger on Charlotte Light Rail

A stabbing aboard a light rail train in Charlotte, North Carolina, led to serious criminal charges against a Honduran man who authorities say had previously been deported from the United States twice.

Oscar Gerardo Solorzano-Garcia, 33, was arrested on December 5, 2025, after allegedly stabbing passenger Kenyon Kareem Dobie, 24, during an incident aboard the city’s LYNX Blue Line. Dobie was reportedly stabbed in the chest and received medical attention.

According to court records and law enforcement officials cited in news reports, the confrontation reportedly began after Solorzano-Garcia allegedly harassed an older woman. Dobie said he intervened, explaining that he did not want to see an elderly person targeted.

The suspect initially faced several state charges, including attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury. Federal prosecutors later filed additional charges related to illegal reentry after deportation and an alleged act of violence on a mass transportation system.

Authorities also said Solorzano-Garcia had a prior criminal record, including a robbery conviction and a previous illegal reentry conviction. Records cited by investigators indicate he had been deported in 2018 and again in 2021.

A judge ordered him held without bond while the case proceeded. If convicted of the federal charges, he could face a lengthy prison sentence, potentially including life imprisonment under the applicable law.

The incident renewed concerns about safety on Charlotte’s public transportation system, which had already faced national attention following a separate fatal stabbing on a train earlier in 2025. Local officials have pointed to additional security measures and cooperation with law enforcement as part of their efforts to protect passengers.

Solorzano-Garcia’s charges are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
