Presley Gerber was reportedly living in a sober home rather than a licensed rehabilitation facility when the 27-year-old model died from a suspected drug overdose in Southern California.

People familiar with Gerber’s situation questioned whether Resolutions Living should have referred him to a facility legally authorized to provide medical detoxification, counseling, group sessions and treatment planning, according to TMZ.

NBC News reported that the Santa Monica facility where Gerber died was not required to hold the California state operating license typically required for substance-use treatment centers.

Gerber, the son of supermodel Cindy Crawford, reportedly entered the upscale facility on Saturday night. TMZ reported that he died the following day.

Resolutions Living advertises services including daily chef-prepared meals, fully stocked kitchens and round-the-clock staff support for residents. However, the facility’s classification as a sober home means it operates differently from a licensed treatment center.

The report also raised questions about Resolutions Therapeutic Services founder Reza Nabavi. His registered psychologist license was reportedly temporarily revoked in 2006 for reasons that were not clear from the available information. He was reportedly placed on probation for five years and ordered to abstain from alcohol and controlled substances before later launching the facility.

Friends of Gerber also expressed concern about his reported use of ketamine before his death. According to the report, the drug had been prescribed by a doctor whose identity has not been disclosed.

The circumstances surrounding the prescription remain unclear, including whether the doctor had any connection to Resolutions Living or another treatment facility.

Gerber had reportedly struggled with addiction, making the circumstances surrounding his treatment a particular concern for people who knew him.

No one has been charged in connection with Gerber’s death. A toxicology examination is expected to help determine the cause of death and establish what substances may have been present in his system.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the available reports do not establish that the sober home’s operations caused or directly contributed to Gerber’s death.
