Bali Police Investigate Deaths of Australian Man and Two Children as Suspected Murder-Suicide
BALI, Indonesia — September 15, 2026

Indonesian police have concluded that an Australian father killed his two young children before taking his own life at a bungalow in Bali, following an investigation into the deaths of three members of the same family.

The bodies were discovered at a rented bungalow in the Kuta area of Bali on September 13. The victims were an Australian man and his two children.

Police were alerted after the children’s mother, who was in Jakarta, became concerned when she could no longer contact her husband and children.

A neighbour and local residents eventually forced open the bungalow and found the three victims inside. Initial police examinations indicated that the children had died as a result of violence, while the father was believed to have died by hanging.

The bodies were taken to Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah Central General Hospital in Denpasar as police began examining the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

CCTV Evidence Examined
Denpasar police said investigators reviewed CCTV footage and interviewed witnesses, including the children’s mother.

According to the Bali Police, the footage recorded sounds from inside a room where the children were believed to have been killed. Investigators also said the footage showed the father retrieving a blue rope from storage before later taking his own life.

Police said the evidence and witness statements led investigators to conclude that the father was responsible for the deaths of his two children before ending his own life.

Investigation Set to Close
On September 15, Denpasar Police Chief Senior Commissioner Leonardo D. Simatupang said authorities were preparing to formally terminate the investigation because the main suspect had also died.

Police said the case would be closed through an official termination-of-investigation order after the remaining legal procedures are completed.

Australian authorities have also been assisting the family through consular channels.

The case has shocked both the local community and relatives of the family, while authorities continue completing the final administrative and legal steps surrounding the deaths.
