A violent confrontation at Westchester Community College has led to felony assault charges against two students after two people were injured during a fight on the Valhalla campus, authorities said.

The suspects are a 17-year-old girl, whose identity has not been released because of her age, and her 18-year-old boyfriend, Darryl Crawford of Yonkers.

According to a criminal complaint, the confrontation began outside the David Swoope Student Center Wednesday afternoon. Authorities allege Crawford became involved in a physical altercation before producing a pocket knife.

Investigators say Crawford allegedly dropped the knife during the confrontation. The complaint further alleges that the teenage girl picked up the weapon and used the broken blade against one of the victims.

It remains unclear from the publicly available allegations whether Crawford himself injured either victim.

Westchester County police responded to a 911 call at approximately 12:40 p.m. Officers reportedly found two injured students at the scene and took both suspects into custody.

Video circulating from the incident appears to show students involved in a chaotic fight on the campus lawn, with punches and kicks being exchanged before at least one injured person was left on the ground.

One student who witnessed the incident described the scene as chaotic and said she rushed to help an injured student while others attempted to control the bleeding until additional assistance arrived.

The victims were taken for medical treatment. Authorities said one suffered a collapsed lung, while additional details about the victims’ conditions have not been publicly released.

The reason the confrontation began remains under investigation.

Law enforcement sources said one of the injured individuals is a former Westchester Community College student, although authorities have not established publicly whether that connection played any role in the confrontation.

Crawford and his girlfriend are both enrolled at the college.

Following their arraignments Thursday in Greenburgh Town Court, the teenage suspect was placed in juvenile detention at Woodfield Cottage.

Crawford was ordered held on $25,000 cash bail or a bond of up to $100,000. He is scheduled to return to court on October 2.

Westchester Community College said county police are leading the investigation and that the school is cooperating fully with authorities.

“Our top priority is ensuring a safe and welcoming campus environment for students, faculty and staff,” the college said in a statement, adding that the campus incident had been resolved.

The case remains under investigation, and the allegations against both defendants are accusations at this stage. They are entitled to due process and a presumption of innocence unless proven guilty in court.

What began as a confrontation between students quickly became a serious criminal investigation — with video footage, multiple injuries and a weapon now at the center of the case.
