A late-night supercar crash in Irvine has left two people dead, as investigators work to determine exactly what happened in the moments before the devastating collision.

James Wehr, 27, founder of San Clemente’s South OC Cars and Coffee, and Alexis “Lexi” Kramer, 22, a bartender from Lakeland, Florida, were identified by their families and members of the local car community as the two people involved in the crash.

The collision happened shortly after midnight Sunday near Culver Drive and Deerfield Avenue in Irvine, California.

According to police, the purple McLaren was stopped at a red light. When the light changed, the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed before the driver apparently lost control.

The McLaren then struck a tree with tremendous force, causing the vehicle to break apart and catch fire. Both occupants died in the crash.

Police say speed appears to have been a factor, but investigators have not determined the vehicle’s exact speed or the precise reason the driver lost control.

One witness told ABC7 that the McLaren appeared to be traveling extremely fast, with some witnesses estimating speeds could have approached 100 mph. Authorities have not confirmed that estimate.

“Our major accident investigation team still has to complete their full investigation,” Irvine Police Department public information officer Ziggy Azarcon said.

Investigators also confirmed that a woman was sitting in the passenger seat shortly before the collision. Authorities have not publicly released the victims’ names, while Kramer’s family provided dental records to assist the medical examiner with identification.

The investigation could take six months or longer, according to police, because of the detailed reconstruction required to determine what happened.

Kramer had reportedly been communicating with Wehr on Instagram for about a month before the pair met in person that weekend. Her family said Wehr had paid for her flight. The two reportedly had dinner at Nobu and drinks at the Pendry Hotel before attending Wehr’s weekly car gathering, an event that attracts thousands of automotive enthusiasts.

Kramer, who had recently earned an associate’s degree from Polk State College, also appeared as a 2026 Hooters calendar girl.

Her family said Wehr had told Kramer that he was separating from his wife and that a divorce was underway. However, court records reviewed by The Post reportedly showed no divorce filing.

As investigators continue piecing together the final moments of the drive, many questions remain unanswered.
