Two Killed, 11 Injured After Pickup Truck Plows Through Youth Soccer Game in Kansas

A youth soccer game in Kansas turned into a devastating scene when a pickup truck drove onto the field, killing a 6-year-old boy and a 35-year-old man and leaving at least 11 other people injured.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:25 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, at Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, according to local authorities. Emergency services received reports of a vehicle driving through a youth soccer game and striking multiple people.
When officers and paramedics arrived, they found injured children and adults as bystanders rushed to provide assistance. The driver remained near the truck with two children, police said.
The two people killed were identified as 6-year-old Cole Adrian and 35-year-old Nicholas Schafer, who were not related. At least 11 others were transported to local hospitals, with reported injuries ranging from minor to serious. Several of those hurt were children between the ages of 5 and 9.
Investigators said the driver was a 34-year-old woman from Garden City, Kansas. She reportedly had one child playing soccer at another field in the complex, while her two other children were inside the pickup at the time of the incident. Authorities have not publicly released her name.
Witnesses described scenes of confusion and panic as the truck crossed the field and struck people. Parents and other spectators rushed to help the injured before emergency responders took over.
The tragedy also affected nearby sporting events. The Kansas State High School Activities Association had been holding its first girls’ flag football championship at a field adjacent to the incident. The organization suspended upcoming championship games following the crash, while the Stryker Sports Complex canceled events scheduled for the following day.
Police took the driver into custody after the incident but later released her while awaiting toxicology test results and a mechanical examination of the vehicle. Investigators conducted more than 30 interviews and consulted with the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.

As of the latest reports, no criminal charges had been filed. Authorities said they were continuing to investigate what caused the truck to enter the field and whether any criminal conduct was involved.
The incident has left families and the local sports community mourning the victims, as investigators work to establish the full circumstances of the deadly crash.
