Missing Kentucky Baby Miya Rudd: Five Arrests Lead to a Heartbreaking Discovery

The disappearance of an eight-month-old baby in Kentucky sparked an urgent investigation that led police to several members of her extended family. What initially appeared to be a missing-child case took a devastating turn when investigators discovered infant remains inside a residence.
Miya Tucker Rudd was reported missing in June 2024 after authorities conducted a welfare check at her family’s home in Reynolds Station and could not locate her. Relatives reportedly had not seen the baby for several weeks.
Her parents, Tesla Tucker and Cage Rudd, were arrested at a motel in Owensboro. Police said they found drugs, including fentanyl and methamphetamine, and the couple could not provide investigators with information that helped locate their daughter.
The investigation widened as officers arrested additional individuals, including members of the family’s extended circle. Authorities also searched nearby wooded areas and other locations while trying to determine what had happened to the infant.
On June 14, 2024, Kentucky State Police discovered the remains of a baby concealed inside a residence. Investigators said the remains were believed to be those of Miya.
An autopsy later found methamphetamine in the infant’s system. Because of the condition of the remains, the medical examiner could not determine the precise cause of death, but classified the manner of death as homicide.
In January 2025, a grand jury issued indictments involving Miya’s parents, her grandfather Ricky Smith, and Brodie Payne. The charges included allegations connected to child abuse and the handling of the child’s remains, with additional serious charges reported in the case.
The investigation exposed a deeply troubling situation involving a vulnerable infant and several adults who were allegedly connected to the circumstances surrounding her death. The charges are allegations, and each defendant’s criminal responsibility must be determined through the legal process.
